Along with the invaluable knowledge gained, I also learnt the US system of practice and  developed patient communication skills during history taking.

The telerotation with Dr Tirupathi was conducted on Microsoft Teams and we had 3 to 4 sessions per week. I specifically enrolled for this, because of the small size of the cohort. My previous rotations had nearly 20 to 25 students, and we could each get only 2 to 3 minutes time to interact with our supervisor, but here, due to the small sized cohorts I was able to interact with the supervisor, I asked all my doubts, had adequate opportunities to present cases, talk in group discussions, and do presentations on certain interesting topics. Dr Tirupathi is very knowledgable and approachable, I was able to get in touch with him prior to commencement of the rotations and I still keep in touch with him. Being an IMG himself, he understands all our struggles and is very passionate about teaching

Managed to see a variety of cases. Learned a lot about infectious disease, a field that I had very little experience in. Dr. Tirupathy let you present cases to him and teaches you a few points with each case. Gained in-depth exposure to the management of conditions such as COVID-19, hepatitis, HIV, sepsis and septic shock, fever of unknown origin, febrile neutropenia, osteomyelitis, meningitis and encephalitis. Became familiar with infection prevention, control, PPE, and proper protocols for reporting a case to the appropriate public health agency. He is very approachable and will get to know you personally during your rotation. My Lor was written based on my rotation, case report presentation, and monkey pox review.

There was always a large number of patients that we would get the opportunity to interact with and Dr. R really let us take on a hand on approach and get involved with the patients and their care. I would highly recommend this rotation to any and all medical students, in the U.S. and abroad because they would not only be gaining a valuable clinical experience but also learn an incredible amount of knowledge in patient care, new pharmacological treatments and developing their skills with the EHR.

These are my memories. You all will like the rotation at Huntsville Hospital, Alabama. It is a very nice town. About Dr. shekar, I have no words, he is just an extraordinary mentor. Because there were only another student and me rotating with Dr. Shekar during the entire month, we were able to assist him by doing physical exams, writing our notes and observing him while he was doing procedures. Dr. Shekar also mentor me on 2 abstract publications as a first author from the most interesting case rreports during one month rotation.  I had secure a residency interview in Internal Medicine at Huntsville Hospital. Since it was only 2 students per attending, we were able to interact more effectively and discuss treatment plans thoroughly for each of the patients. We even had the opportunity to encounter rare cases and submitted a case report. This is by far the best place I have rotated in!

The housing is wonderful! It gave me the opportunity to live in a beautiful community at a price that was feasible for me. Even my commute to work is less than 15 minutes walking, which is a huge plus.
